El filme "The Grand Budapest Hotel" y la cinta sobre el científico Stephen Hawking "The Theory of Everything" se consagraron como favoritas a los premios de cine Bafta del Reino Unido con once y diez candidaturas, respectivamente.
La Academia Británica de las Artes Cinematográficas y de la Televisión (Bafta) dio a conocer la lista de los candidatos a estos prestigiosos galardones, considerados como la antesala de los Oscar, que serán entregados en Londres el próximo 8 de febrero.
Además de esas dos cintas, figuran como candidatas a mejor película "Birdman", del cineasta mexicano Alejandro González Iñárritu, quien está nominado a tres estatuillas, como mejor director, mejor guión original y mejor película.
La lista de las mejores películas la completan "Boyhood", sobre el crecimiento de un niño y su hermana, con cinco candidaturas, y "The Imitation Game", con nueva, entre ellas mejor actor, Benedict Cumberbatch, por su papel del criptoanalista Alan Turing, que ayudó a descifrar los códigos de la máquina Enigma de la Alemania nazi y que contribuyó a la victoria de los aliados en la II Guerra Mundial.
"The Theory of Everything" tiene entre sus candidaturas las de mejor actor y mejor actriz, Eddie Redmayne y Felicity Jones, por sus actuaciones en la cinta sobre la vida Stephen Hawking cuando le fue diagnosticada la esclerosis lateral amiotrófica (ELA) que le causa parálisis y que está basada en una biografía de su mujer, Jane.
El músico de jazz mexicano Antonio Sánchez aspira a un Bafta en la categoría de música original por el filme "Birdman", centrada en la carrera de un actor y cómo ésta se desmorona.
Entre los aspirantes a mejor director figuran, además de Alejandro González Iñárritu, Richard Linklater, por "Boyhood"; Wes Anderson, por "The Grand Budapest Hotel"; James Marsh, por "The Theory of Everything", y Damien Chazelle, por "Whiplash".
Junto a Cumberbatch compiten en la categoría de mejor actor Eddie Redmayne ("The Theory of Everything"), Jake Gyllenhaall ("Nightcrawler"); Michael Keaton ("Birdman"), y Ralph Fiennes, por "The Grand Budapest Hotel".
Las casas de apuestas británicas tienen a Eddie Redmayne como favorito para llevarse el premio al mejor actor, muy por delante del británico Benedict Cumberbatch y el estadounidense Michael Keaton.
En unas declaraciones hoy a los medios británicos, Redmayne dijo que lo más gratificante de filmar "The Theory of Everything" fue la oportunidad de conocer al mismo Hawking y su familia.
"Todo el filme ha sido una mezcla extraordinaria de gran privilegio y responsabilidad y poder entrar en las vidas de estas personas durante unos meses y escuchar sus historias", añadió.
En la categoría de mejor actriz, junto a Julianne Moore y Felicity Jones, aspiran al Bafta Amy Adams, por "Big Eyes"; Reese Witherspoon, por "Wild", y Rosamund Pike, por "Gone Girl".
Entre las candidaturas a los Bafta 2015 para las cintas en lengua no inglesa está el filme en portugués "Trash", sobre la historia de unos niños en las favelas de Río de Janeiro.
Junto a "Trash", completan la lista de los filmes en lengua no inglesa "Ida", de Polonia; "Leviathan", de Rusia; "The Lunchbox", de la India, y "The days, one night", de Bélgica.
Entre los actores de reparto figuran Edward Norton, por "Birdman"; Ethan Hawke, por "Boyhood"; J.K.Simmons, por "Whiplash"; Mark Ruffalo, por "Foxcatcher", y Steve Carell, por "Foxcatcher".
Entre las estrellas femeninas que aspiran a llevarse la estatuilla en la categoría de actriz de reparto están Keira Knightley, por "The Imitation Game"; Emma Stone, por "Birdman"; Imelda Stauton, por "Pride"; Patricia Arquette, por "Boyhood", y Rene Russo, en el filme "Nightcralwer".
